Swiss Water Decaf
Swiss Water Decaf is a chemical-free decaffeination process that uses water, temperature, and time to remove caffeine from coffee beans. The process begins by creating a green coffee extract (GCE) saturated with coffee solids but free of caffeine. This GCE is then used to wash freshly water-soaked green coffee beans. The caffeine in the beans migrates into the GCE due to osmosis, while the flavor compounds remain in the beans. This process is repeated until the beans are 99.9% caffeine-free. Swiss Water Decaf preserves much of the coffee's original flavor profile, resulting in a decaffeinated coffee that tastes remarkably similar to its caffeinated counterpart. This method is popular among specialty coffee roasters and consumers seeking a chemical-free decaf option with minimal impact on flavor.
